KASTAMONU completes PEFC certification of responsible forest management
KASTAMONU wood processing plant in the Alabuga SEZ has successfully passed through the certification for compliance with the requirements of the PEFC forest certification system. It should be noted that since the commissioning of production, the company has also been actively cooperating with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), which is the guarantor of the legal origin of the wood used in the production.
PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes) is a voluntary confirmation of compliance providing guarantees that wood products are produced from objectively certified forests in accordance with pan-European criteria and requirements.
Being a responsible forest user, KASTAMONU not only itself passes environmental certification, but also regularly works with suppliers of raw materials, prompting them to become more actively involved in this process.
"KASTAMONU itself does not harvest wood, and purchasing raw materials only from certified suppliers, encourages the rest to pass this certification," said Ali Kılıç, General Director of KASTAMONU in Russia. "Thanks to this work, the forestry enterprises of Tatarstan supplying raw materials for the KASTAMONU plant have FSC certificates - they are conducting not only harvesting, but also reforestation works in volumes exceeding logging capacity. At the same time, an important advantage of the PEFC RUSSIA system is its full compliance with the national legislation of the Russian Federation and its international obligations aimed at the rational use, conservation and restoration of forest resources."
